The International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM) recently organised a special online session on migratory birds and biodiversity awareness as part of its growing Biodiversity Concierge initiative across campuses. The interactive session brought together students and faculty members from various IIHM campuses to explore the importance of migratory birds, ecological conservation, and sustainable hospitality practices.
The event aimed to sensitise future hospitality professionals towards environmental responsibility and the growing role of biodiversity in tourism and hospitality experiences. With sustainability becoming a key pillar of global hospitality, IIHM continues to encourage students to understand nature, wildlife, local ecosystems, and conservation-driven tourism.
As part of the initiative, students from campuses including Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Pune, Siliguri, Ahmedabad, and Goa participated in a unique biodiversity-themed competition focusing on migratory birds, wetlands, endangered species, and regional ecological treasures. The competition encouraged students to research and present stories connected to local biodiversity and bird migration patterns in their respective regions.
The online session featured discussions on the fascinating journeys of migratory birds across continents, the ecological importance of wetlands, and how biodiversity can become an integral part of hospitality storytelling and guest engagement. Students also explored how hotels and tourism destinations worldwide are increasingly incorporating eco-tourism, conservation experiences, and nature-based activities into luxury and experiential travel offerings.
The Biodiversity Concierge initiative at IIHM seeks to create hospitality professionals who are not only skilled in service excellence but are also environmentally conscious global citizens. Through innovative learning activities like these, IIHM is integrating sustainability, conservation awareness, and experiential learning into hospitality education.
By combining hospitality education with environmental awareness, IIHM continues to prepare students for the future of global hospitality, where sustainability, responsible tourism, and cultural sensitivity are becoming increasingly important. The migratory bird session served as yet another example of IIHM’s commitment to creating industry-ready professionals with a deeper understanding of the world around them.
